News from the Charities Committee

NEWS FROM ALL SAINTS’ CHARITIES COMMITTEE

At our most recent committee meeting we thought it would be a good idea to provide information about our fund raising activities for this year and to let you know that we welcome any suggestions for possible new projects large or small.  We would also like to use this note as an opportunity to thank our numerous friends who help with running stalls at the Christmas Fair and raising funds continually throughout the year by books sales in the Meeting Room and craft sales in the North Aisle – and not forgetting the many friends who attend our activities.

As we have done for the past two years, we are supporting three charities in 2018.  These are a local charity Coffee4Craig who work to improve the situation for people who experience homelessness in Manchester, Water Aid UK who are dedicated to provide clean water and decent toilets in many countries and the National Autistic Society, Manchester Branch.

We made a good start with a very successful coffee morning on Saturday 10 March and raised a total of £426.40.  Thanks to all of you who attended.  We are considering the possibility of having another coffee morning on the second Saturday in September.  If you have not been to our coffee mornings, please come along even if only to buy a ticket and have a coffee and a chat – although we are happy to take more cash off you at our cakes, crafts, bring and buy stalls and sell you some raffle tickets.

Our next function is planned for 7.00 pm Friday evening 29 June when we intend to have a Beetle Drive with strawberries and cream to sustain us.  Some of us have not attended a Beetle Drive for more years than we care to remember and maybe some of you have never attended one.  However, the Friday Club contains many experts who will be pleased to tell you how enjoyable and exasperating it is.  More details will be announced later but please keep a note of the date.  The cost has been provisionally set at £5 per head with usual concessions for children and young people.

Looking further ahead, we will have our usual Harvest Lunch on Sunday 14 October and our Christmas Fair on Saturday 24 November.  We are always aware that having our Christmas Fair in November looks like bad planning but we are constrained by the main hall in the Parish Rooms being booked for other Saturday events.  Then we are also faced with similar events being held at other churches in the area on the same day.  Sometimes we don’t give the impression of being very festive, as the venue doesn’t have much in the way of decorations but we do try our best.  At this point we want to say that we are not an exclusive little group and reiterate what has been said above about welcoming any ideas for new activities and help anyone might be willing to give.  With regard to new activities, we have come round to the view that to put on a number of smaller fund raising activities throughout the year might be the way ahead.

Although the Charities Committee at All Saints’ has been in existence for many years, we realise we have a very low profile.  Apart from adverts for our functions in the Parish Magazine and the website, there are no contact details for us.  We intend to rectify these omissions in the very near future.  In the meantime, should you want to make contact you are welcome to phone David Pickett (the money man – otherwise known as Treasurer) on 439 8890.

So, thank you for reading this far.  We hope to keep in touch with future bulletins like this one.
