On our Choir Sunday in June 2025, enthusiastic applause greeted the presentation to Anne Fleeson of a Royal School of Church Music (RSCM) loyal service award in recognition of 70 years' service to music at All Saints Church, Cheadle Hulme.
Anne began singing at All Saints in the early 1950's when she joined the Teenage Choir. Following this Anne joined the Mothers' Union ladies' choir under the direction of the then vicar's wife, Jean Byrom. As was the case in many Anglican churches at the time, the Parish Eucharist and Evensong Services were sung by the men and boys choir, but when a 9am service was introduced the ladies' choir was asked to sing.
At that time Anne was teaching in the Sunday School but with her usual dedication to the Church, she sang at the 9am service and at 10am went to fulfill her duties in the Sunday School.
When Eric Ward became Organist he invited the ladies to join the men and boys to sing Evensong thus creating All Saints mixed voice choir.
This award recognises not only Anne's unfailing dedication and enthusiasm over 70 years as a chorister but also her provision of the most delicious shortbread!
Congratulations and blessings, Anne.
