7th Cheadle Hulme Beavers and Cubs

For over 50 years All Saints Parish Church has had a close association with local scouting. In 2018 we have a thriving Beaver colony with 17 members and a Cub section with 28 attendees...and waiting lists to join both.

Amongst all the choices of activities for our young people today, scouting continues to be popular. "Young people love the adventure, learning new things and the chance to get out and about; their parents appreciate how their children develop skills such as leadership, communication, and self-awareness which prepare them to play a full role in their communities in later life," says the Group Scout Leader, Andy Thompson.

"But, what we need to make sure we can continue to offer this life-changing opportunity for our young people is more adult volunteers," he adds.

Andy had never been a cub or scout himself but when his youngest son joined the 7th Cheadle Hulme group as a cub he saw how rewarding he found it. When his son moved on, Andy stayed to help make a difference to the next generation.

Parent helpers can, like Andy, go on to become fully-fledged leaders but to start with all you need is an interest in child development and a commitment to providing exciting opportunities for our young people. Adult volunteers also gain skills which are directly transferable to the workplace and get training in First Aid and safeguarding.

Volunteers can be occasional helpers where there is limited training to do or go further or support the main leaders attending Friday meetings and running and helping at events or camps.

All helpers will be police and DBS checked.

The group is also looking for support behind the scenes. If you could manage the administration of the badges or run fundraising events the group would love to hear from you.

The 7th Cheadle Hulme Beavers meet (during term time) on a Friday between 6 and 7 pm; the Cubs on the same night between 6.30 and 8 pm.
